FAQs

Why choose us?

We defend cases in the crown court regularly.

We only use counsel we know and trust will deliver.

Our results speak for themselves.

Why has my case been sent to the crown court?
Some cases are known as indictable only. That means they can only ever be heard at the crown court. Examples include murder, rape and robbery.

Other cases can be sent to the crown court if the magistrates deem it’s sentencing powers insufficient. These are known as either way offences.

You do in certain circumstances have the right to elect trial by Judge and Jury if jurisdiction of your case is accepted by the Magistrates but if you would prefer your case to be heard by the Crown Court in any event.

Will I get legal aid?
The rules for the crown court differ to the magistrates and are more complex.

If you have an annual household disposable income of £37,500 or more you will not be eligible for legal aid in a Crown Court trial. If your disposable income is above £3,398 but less than £37,500, you would have to make an income contribution towards your costs.

If you have above £30,000 in capital and equity and if convicted, you may have to contribute towards any remaining balance against your final defence costs.

We routinely take on privately paying work in the Crown Court.

How much to defend my on a private paying basis?
We can provide bespoke costs estimates upon request. Each case is unique and costs depend on the type of offence, location and complexity.
