Magistrates Court
All cases start off in the Magistrates Court but whether they remain there or not depends on the nature and type of case.
Some cases are so serious that they will always be transferred to the crown court. Others can only ever be heard in the Magistrates.
Some cases can be heard in either court and are known as either way offences.
